Dear Adam, Tina, and the No Agenda family, I'm making a donation memory of John, and I wanted to send along a few words with it. I've been a listener for the better part of a decade now, but my history with John actually goes back much further than that. As a teenager in the nineteen eighties heading into my early twenties, I was completely absorbed by computers, and a lot of what I taught myself came from PC Magazine and the other periodicals of the day. John was often the writer with the insider's eye, the reviewer he trusted because he'd clearly used the thing and had an opinion about it. I read everything he wrote. He was part of my education before I ever knew his voice. Years later, I rediscovered him on Twitter with Leo LaPorte arguing with Neelay Patel messing with Leo's newest toys, switching the language on some poor unbox device to Korean or Russian just to watch the gas. That's where I first heard about No Agenda. And when I tuned in, I got a genuine surprise. My MTV VJ from my teenage years, Adam Curry, sitting right there as his cohost. The two of them became a real part of my life. They were funny. I learned constantly and I loved the irreverence of it all. At a time when so much media seemed engineered to keep people anxious, their deconstruction of the news brought real clarity. They helped me remember to actually think, to ask, who benefits? My listening became routine in the best way. ITM, the fat lady saying, washing the car, driving back roads, coffee at home on a Sunday morning. Every episode got listened to more than once. More nights than I can count. I fell asleep to the two of them arguing with each other. I never met John and never met Adam either, but I feel like I know them. Last Sunday, I remember noticing John pause a couple of times and at one point he sounded congested. It took him a while to clear his throat and it bothered me. I wish I'd had a way to reach him and just ask if he was doing alright. Tell him to check-in with his cardiologist. That wasn't God's plan, parent. Mimi, my deepest condolences to you and the family. Adam, Tina, I'm so sorry for your loss. Gitmo Nation will go on. It'll just be different now. God bless, sir, doctor Jeff. No jingles, no karma for the No Agenda family.
