- 1889 — Producer's Tribute to JCD$333.33
To my No Agenda Ohana. When work keeps me from listening live to my biweekly media deconstruction from the best podcast in the universe, I save the entire show for a long walk by the sea. It is tempting to cheat and start late at night, but No Agenda is best consumed from beginning to end, in my personal opinion. So on the first Thursday of the week, I woke up ready for my wisdom fix from the voices of my favorite duo. Fanny pack secured, I opened fountain because non legacy podcast providers are superior, and pulled up show 1888. The title was jarring. That seems a little dark even for you for John, I thought. Then I saw the artwork, the candle, the empty table, the illuminated microphone, the dates. No. No. No. I crumpled to the floor and stared for an ungodly amount of time waiting for my brain to catch up. Like many, I hoped it was some macabre trick. Eventually, I mustered the courage to hit play. The tone had shifted. Something, someone was missing. The tears poured out of me. I picked myself up and walked into the sunlight. As the voices, stories, jingles, and memories continued, so did I. The sky looked brighter. The ocean looked deeper. The world felt quieter. John, I could fill pages with what you taught me, how hard you made me laugh, and how much better I am because of the years spent listening to you. Instead, I offer your soaring spirit, your tremendous family, Adam and all of Gitmo Nation, the Hawaiian prayer of I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you. The only downer is that I will never hear you suffer through the Hawaiian pronunciation, which is identical to Spanish. And frankly, you were terrible at it. Adam has an excuse, but John, you're from California. In parting, I want you to know from the bottom of my heart, this is hurting the show. Yours in past, present, and future.
